Season of Creation

It is 10 years since Pope Francis’s seminal encyclical letter “Laudato Si”, which calls on us to hear the cry of the earth and of the poor.

Monday 1st September is a World Day of Prayer for Creation and the start of the Season of Creation – instituted by the late Pope as a world wide Christian celebration of prayer and action. The season continues until Saturday 4th October, the feast of Saint Francis of Assisi.

This year’s theme, “Peace With Creation”, is inspired by Isaiah 32: 14-18, and emphasises the need to treat all of God’s creation – both the earth and its peoples – with peace and justice. To mark this special time, perhaps you might pray the Stations of Creation Way of Beauty (14 Stations of Creation) Based on Laudato Si'.

Or maybe you will sign the Caritas petition to end the unjust and unpayable debts that prevent developing countries from protecting their own people and environment Turn Debt into Hope - Turn debt into hope.

In addition, please do come to our own celebration Mass on Thursday 25th September at 7pm at St Dunstan’s Church. By then, our joint parish of St Dunstan’s and St Hugh’s may well have achieved the CAFOD Live Simply award, based on Laudato Si. Our joyful Mass will be followed by refreshments and information about our Live Simply journey.
